The Mikhailovsky Service was produced between 1819 and 1822 for use at the Mikhailovsky Palace, Petersburg residence of Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich (1798-1849). The dessert plates are particularly outstanding; the very best figurative painters at the manufactory copied a classically-themed compositions by European painters  on the plates. On the Mikhailovsky Service, see Pod tsarskim venzelem, St Petersburg, 2007, pp. 128-129.
