Description
Property from a Private English Collection
A Fabergé jewelled gold and aquamarine basket of flowers egg pendant, workmaster August Holmström, St Petersburg, circa 1900
a briolette-cut aquamarine forming the basket, mounted with a diamond-set gold rim holding diamond-set gold flowers, hanging from an upside-down diamond-set gold horseshoe, struck with workmaster's initials, 56 standard
height incl. loop 3.9cm; 1½in.
The compositional choice of a floral basket surmounting the egg makes the present egg pendant comparable to the Basket of Flowers Egg. A virtuoso composition that combined enamelled flower studies, precious stones and gold elements mounted onto a finely enamelled egg base. It was commissioned by Tsar Nicholas II as an Easter present for Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna in 1901, presently in the Royal Collection Trust (RCIN 40098).
