The present lot is one of only a very small number of works Bogomazov created in 1920 and was a reaction to the death of his father-in-law, Vitold Monastyrsky. It is closely related to the painting Funeral, which is of similar dimensions and is now in the collection of the National Art Museum of Ukraine in Kiev.
