Sheet: 40 by 28.5cm, 15 ¾ by 11 ¼ in.

Framed: 65.5 by 54cm, 25 ¾ by 21 ¼ in.

The sheet has discoloured and there is mount staining. The top and bottom edges are deckled. There are pinholes to the top and bottom right corners. There are three creases running horizontally across the sheet. Further minor creases are visible to the bottom left and top right corners as well as in places elsewhere. There is a light layer of surface dirt and minor foxing in places. Framed and held behind plexiglass.

The present portrait is a study for Bogomazov's unfinished triptych Sawyers, on which he worked during the final years of his life. While this drawing does not have a direct equivalent in the painting, the headgear suggests that it relates to the figure dressed in white in what was intended to be the central panel of the triptych, now in the collection of the National Art Museum of Ukraine in Kiev.
