all initialed 'R' below an earl's coronet for 'The Earl of Rochford', comprising:

48 forks;

36 table spoons;

23 dessert forks;

24 dessert spoons;

24 teaspoons;

4 basting spoons;

3 soup ladles in sizes;

8 salt spoons;

6 sauce ladles;

2 sugar sifters in sizes;

An ice spade;

A tea caddy spoon;

2 condiment spoons;

A cheese scoop;

A pair of sugar tongs

3 associated pairs of sugar nips, crested

8 associated poultry skewers in sizes

Please note that this set is composed of pieces by various makers dating from 1782-1800, the majority being by George Smith, London, 1782.
William Henry Nassau de Zuylestein, 5th Earl of Rochford (1754–1830);
to his step-nephew Alexander Hamilton, 10th Duke of Hamilton, 7th Duke of Brandon (1767–1852);
By descent to Lady Mary Louise (1884-1957), only child and principal heir of William Alexander Douglas-Hamilton, 12th Duke of Hamilton, who married in 1906 James Graham (1878-1954), Marquis of Graham who in 1925 succeeded his father as 6th Duke of Montrose;
Thence by descent.
