Pieter van Loo was one of the leading Dutch flower-painters of the 18th century. Although his watercolours of single flowers are not especially rare, only a small handful of complete still life compositions like this one have come to auction in recent decades (most recently, in 2014, a magnificent sheet, offered directly by the descendants of Baron van Slingelandt, who most likely acquired it directly from the artist).1 Two further examples are in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.2
