Johannes Glauber was a pupil of Nicolaes Berchem.  In 1671, he set off for Italy, and but spent extended periods in Paris and Lyon on the way.  His stay in Italy involved visits to Padua and Venice as well as Rome.  In 1679 he returned to the north, but also travelled to Hamburg and Copenhagen before settling first in Amsterdam and then The Hague.  A very comparable drawing by the artist is in the Hessisches Landesmuseum, Darmstadt.1
