Muromachi period, 16th century 


of turned and assembled wood with curved top meeting the everted sides to form a crisp edge, the sides narrowing towards a broad base above a low foot, the underside slightly recessed, the red lacquer worn away in places revealing the black lacquer beneath, the recessed underside lacquered black inscribed with the character Kichi and dated Kanbun juuni nen, mizunoe-ne, shogatsu kichijutsu (an auspicious day in first month of 1672), signed Fukui Mitsunoya and kao
