Sky and Sea

signed and titled in Cyrillic and dated 1985 on the reverse and bearing Centre Pompidou and Stedelijk Museum exhibition labels on the stretcher

oil on canvas

Canvas: 200 by 200.5cm, 78¾ by 79in.

Original canvas. Stretcher bar marks are visible along the top and bottom edges. There are a few isolated areas of craquelure, most noticeably to the letter 'B' and the clouds, to both letters 'O', to the bottom of the letter 'R', to the sky in the upper left and elsewhere. There is a light layer of surface dirt with handling marks in places. Inspection under UV light reveals retouching to the drip marks at the bottom of the letter 'E' in the lower right. These are also visible to the naked eye and appear to have been done by the artist. Unframed.
