Board: 40 by 60cm, 15¾ by 23¾in.

Framed: 49 by 69cm, 19¼ by 27¼in.

Executed on a sheet of paper laid down on canvasboard. The support is bowed. The corners are fraying and show minor losses. There are pinholes to the centre of the top edge. There are minor losses to the paper in the lower right corner and towards the upper left edge. Scratches with minor associated paint loss can be seen to the right side of the sitter's neck and to the background in the upper left as well as in places elsewhere. Further minor flecks of paint loss are visible to the background to the left of his neck, to the left of his hand, to the right of the flame and in places elsewhere. There is a layer of dirt with spots of dirt in places. Inspection under UV light reveals no obvious signs of retouching. Framed.
