Businessman Léon ("Victor") Vidal owned newspapers, a condom factory, a bookshop and a factory which produced lingerie and fetishwear. Brassaï made a series of photographs for Diana Slip Co. Lingerie, one of Vidal's enterprises. According to scholar Alain Sayag, Brassaï had contracted with Vidal to work on a publication in 1932 but by 1934 their relationship had eroded and the book was never produced. (Brassaï, p. 24)
