The present work Trollakrokar Series, 2004 by Olafur Eliasson depicts the landscape of ‘Trollakrokar’, an adventures tourist attraction in East Iceland with fascinating almost surreal canyon formations. The artist chose the image of the wilderness area during winter, exploring the dramatic and simultaneously the stillness feeling conveyed by this place and showing the fascination of the wilderness and the power of nature. The work consists of five parts in which he captures different viewpoints, drawing the spectator into these evolving emotions unleashed by this constellation created by nature. This present installation is representative of Olafur Eliasson’s investigation of elementary basic materials such as water or light as artificially generated natural phenomena, light reflections or mirror images as well as his exploration into issues of self-discovery, perception and bodily experience.

The artist’s works span from sculpture to painting, film, photography as well as installations, and have been subject to numerous exhibitions in world-renowned museums. Beyond museums and galleries, his artistic work also addresses a broader public, for example through architectural projects and interventions in public spaces.
