This 1960 East German/Polish science fiction film was based on Stanisław Lem's 1951 science fiction novel The Astronauts. The film was directed by Kurt Maetzig, and the cast includes Günther Simon, Julius Ongewe and Yoko Tani. The film was first released in East Germany, followed by various dubbed and cut versions in English. Following the discovery of an ancient flight recorder that came from a spaceship apparently from Venus, a crew of international astronauts are sent to Venus, where they discover a civilisation that has made an instrument with the intent on destroying all life on Earth.
