Ex coll. Francis Seymour Haden (L. 3554)
Esteemed English surgeon, artist, and print collector Francis Seymour Haden (1818-1910) was a leading Rembrandt expert and a true connoisseur of the Dutch master's etchings.  His personal collection of Rembrandt prints was one of the finest of his day and greatly influenced his own prints as well as those of his brother-in-law James Abbott McNeill Whistler (1834-1903).  In their pursuit to emulate Rembrandt's etching techniques they inspired Britain's etching revival.
