Description
Pier Francesco di Jacopo Foschi
Florence 1502 - 1567
The Resurrection
oil on panel
unframed: 26.7 x 38.4 cm.; 10½ x 15⅛ in.
framed: 33.5 x 44.4 cm.; 13⅛ x 17½ in.
This panel must originally have formed part of a predella. It compares closely with Foschi's small Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian, formerly in the collection of Roberto Longhi, and two other predella panels from the Church of Santo Spirito, Florence,1 all of which date to the years around the mid-16th century, when Foschi was working in a developed Mannerist style, no longer so influenced by the example of his master, Andrea del Sarto (1486-1530).
We are grateful to Professor Andrea de Marchi for proposing the attribution to Foschi on the basis of digital images.
