Pier Francesco di Jacopo Foschi

This panel must originally have formed part of a predella. It compares closely with Foschi's small Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian, formerly in the collection of Roberto Longhi, and two other predella panels from the Church of Santo Spirito, Florence,¹ all of which date to the years around the mid-16th century, when Foschi was working in a developed Mannerist style, no longer so influenced by the example of his master, Andrea del Sarto (1486-1530).
