Where acquired by Sir Peter Jonas (1946–2020).

According to the inscription this interior of Luther's study was painted from the original, in a castle in Wittenberg. It was almost certainly here that the Protestant reformer translated the Old Testament, which was illustrated by his friend Lucas Cranach the Elder.
