This charming figure of Saint Michael slaying the Dragon represents a rare double iconography: The Saint is simultaneously shown as the Conveyor of Souls, with a small figure clutching to his chest, and as the vanquisher of Satan in the form of a dragon at his feet. The figure's somewhat naively rendered head, with broad features and large ears, and the short proportions of its body led Boccador (op. cit.) to propose a Southern French origin, in Aquitaine, around 1400.
