Italian, Venice, late 16th/ early 17th century

Pax with the Pietà surmounted by the Risen Christ

inscribed: DIXI TV ES SPES MEA to the cartouche, and incised: C.H.Z. 1073 to the stand on the reverse

32.5cm., 12¾in. and 33cm., 13in.

The angels adorning this elaborately modelled pax show a stylistic resemblance to bronzes associated with the leading Venetian workshop of Nicolò Roccatagliata (circa 1560-1629) and his son, Sebastiano Nicolini.
