The authorship of this anonymous print and its companion piece (lot 91), has been a point of contention amongst scholars for decades. Once believed to have been engraved by Philippe de Soye (active in Rome circa 1566-72), more recently it has been accepted as the work of engraver and goldsmith Girolamo Faccioli (active in Bologna and Rome from the 1530's).
