framed: 143.2 x 167.9 cm.; 56 3/8 x 66 1/8 in.
The subject and design of this painting are clearly derived from the work of Pier Francesco Mola, such as the depictions of Homer with a disciple in the Palazzo Corsini, Rome (inv. no. 192),1 and in the Pushkin Museum, Moscow (inv. no. F-171),2 as well as those which portray the poet with his eyes closed, such as that offered at Christie's, London, 3 December 2013, lot 33.3
