Please note that this drawing, by Avanzino Nucci, is based on a painting by Ludovico Cardi, known as Cigoli (1599-1613). The painting, now lost, was commissioned for St. Peter’s Basilica by Pope Paul V (Camillo Borghese). The damaged work was replaced by a mosaic in the 18th Century. The composition is known today by a number of drawings in the Uffizi and several engravings (see F. Faranda, Ludovico Cardi detto il Cigoli, Rome 1986, pp. 161-162, nos. 75a- 75d, reproduced).
