Apollo Flaying Marsyas

Pen and brown ink and wash;

inscribed in brown ink, versocanto ben nota a V.l. L.-h.

207 by 208 mm; 8 ⅛ by 8 ⅛ in

Hinge mounted to a modern cream mount. The sheet is laid down on a japan paper backing. There are some old stains to the upper and lower right corners, probably created by old adhesive to the verso. There is minor scattered foxing. In the areas where the ink and wash has been most densely applied there is some slight cracking to the paper, such as to the inscription in the upper left quarter and to the face of Marsyas. The drawing remains in otherwise sound condition. Sold unframed.
