In this charming work Hunt's wife, Sarah (1812-1860), plays the part of the young farmhand. The pair married in 1830 and she regularly appeared in her husband's watercolours.

The exquisite rendering of the interior of the barn in the present work allows one to fully appreciate Hunt's extremely sophisticated watercolour technique.
