Circle of Pieter Lastman

Though formerly considered a product of the Rembrandt School, this rather sophisticated depiction of the interior of a synagogue, with its subtle fall of light and simple yet characterful figures and faces, would appear to originate from the previous generation of Dutch history painters, in the orbit of Peter Lastman.  Although no specific attribution has yet been possible, there are some stylistic similarities with the drawings of both Claes Cornelisz. Moeyaert and Pieter de Grebber.
