Comparable drawings from an album in the collection of The Earl of Beauchamp were sold at Christie's, London, 15 June 1965. It is not known exactly why Tiepolo made these studies of putti and amorini, although the substantial series may have been inspired by Giambattista's Stanza dei Putti at the Villa Valmarana.
