The sheep-shearer

Black chalk on brown paper;

signed lower right: JW. RA

257 by 215 mm

At the upper left and right of the sheet, the paper tone has lightened in three or four areas. On the right hand side, the surface of the paper has been scuffed. All these defects can only be seen on close inspection. There is a mount 'burn' line in evidence at the extreme edges of the sheet. The work is not laid down and on the verso there is a faint and rapidly executed sketch of a sheep.
