Though we have not been able to connect this figure with any painted work by Tibaldi, this previously unattributed drawing must date from the early 1550s. At that time Tibaldi was frescoing the walls of the Poggi Chapel, in S. Giacomo Maggiore, Bologna. The monumentality of the present female figure is typical of Tibaldi's style, clearly paying homage to Michelangelo, and closely comparable to the painted female figure to the right of the frescoed composition, the Prediction of the Baptist's Birth, in the Poggi Chapel.

The subtle use of the black chalk with dense parallel strokes is also very characteristic of his graphic style.
