Description

Quartz var. Citrine

Mansa District, Luapula Province, Zambia

8 by 4¼ by 1¾ inches (20.3 x 10.8 x 4.5 cm). Custom lucite base.

A natural yellow-tan citrine, double crystal, “Japan Law Twin”.

Impurities of iron hydroxide in quartz result in the variety citrine, a mineral displaying a range of yellow to brown hues. Historically, it was believed that citrine would bring wealth and prosperity, lending to its nickname as the "money stone".

Because precious few unbroken specimens of this size survive from mine to market, pieces such as that offered here are rare and can command considerable prices.
