Fluorite
Xiayang Mine, Yongchon Co., Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, China
6½ by 5½ by 3¾ inches (16.2 x 13.7 x 9.8 cm). Custom lucite base.
These fluorite crystals on matrix display a deep purple color and sharp crystallization.
Stunning blue-purple fluorites were first discovered in the mid-2010’s and were dubbed “tanzanite fluorite”, due to its strong blue-purple color shift under alternate light sources. Also known as fluorspar, fluorite is often transparent, making it valuable in the production of various types of glass. The mineral form of calcium fluoride, fluorite takes on various hues due to impurities, with the brilliant purple specimen offered here as a prime example.
