Rolli, Paolo

Di canzonette e di cantate libri duo. London: Thomas Edlin, 1727

2 parts in one volume, 8vo (19.9 x 12cm), half-title, woodcut vignette on title-page, woodcut initials, head- and tailpieces, 24pp. of engraved music, with final blank leaf, Dolmetsch Library stamp and pencil shelfmark ("II C 5") to verso of title-page, nineteenth-century stamped calf, lacking engraved frontispiece, rebacked with repaired patches on covers

Rolli (1687-1765) came to England in the entourage of the 3rd Earl of Burlington; he taught Italian to various royal and noble children, wrote librettos (some for Handel), and published works of Italian literature during his thirty years in England. This work contains poems designed to be sung, together with a musical setting for the first verse of each of the 24 canzonette in the first part.
