2 volumes, 8vo (210 x 133mm.), half-titles, 2 engraved frontispiece portraits, 2 engraved title-pages, 20 engraved plates, engraved head- and tailpieces, 7 culs-de-lampe on separate plates, all after Gravelot, with final blank leaf at end of volume 1, contemporary marbled calf gilt, spines gilt in compartments, gilt edges, quire A in vol. 1 with some small stains, quires M and Q in vol.2 slightly browned, bindings rubbed

The fine illustrations by Gravelot first appeared in the 1771 Paris edition of the original Italian text. The prose translation here is by Charles-François Lebrun (1739-1824), the statesman, who also translated the Iliad into French.
