signed W.S.C. (lower right)

oil on canvas

unframed: 51 by 61.5cm.; 20 by 24¼in.

framed: 94 by 108cm.; 37 by 42½in.

Executed circa 1934.

We are grateful to Barry Phipps for his kind assistance with the cataloguing of the present work.

Original canvas. The work appears to be in excellent overall condition.

The canvas undulates slightly. There are a few minor abrasions to the extreme edges. Minor lines of craquelure in the sky and mountains, only visible upon close inspection. Light surface dirt and scattered flecks of matter, the work would benefit from a light clean.

Ultraviolet light reveals a thick layer of varnish which makes the reading difficult to determine, but no obvious signs of retouching.

Held in an ornate gilt frame.

Please email Bryn Sayles at bryn.sayles@sothebys.com if you have any questions regarding the present work.
