Garden Ornaments with Flints

stamped with Estate Stamp E. J. Burra (lower right)

pencil, ink, watercolour and gouache on paper laid on card

unframed: 55.5 by 77.5cm.; 21½ by 30½in.

framed: 74 by 96cm.; 29 by 37¾in.

Executed circa 1930.

The sheet is laid onto card and secured within the frame slip by tape verso. The work appears in good overall condition.

There appears to be a small repaired tear in the lower right corner with some resulting discolouration. There are two diagonal surface abrasions centre right of lower edge and two diagonal crease marks in the upper left corner, and some further small abrasions with resulting flecks of paint loss near centre of left edge. Further instances of minor paint loss within the pile of flint, to the stone surround and to the left of it, and by the lower right edge of the shell above it. Some small paint loss within the leaves upper right corner and in occasional places along the right edge. Sheet is possibly slightly discoloured and some water marks most evident to the left of the flints.

Held under glass in a dark stained composite frame with a green slip.
