Contemporary Pakistani sculptor and artist, Adeela Suleman has exhibited extensively around the world, in solo and group shows in cities such as New York, Palo Alto, Barcelona, Berlin, Fukuoka and at home in Karachi. Suleman acquired her BFA in Sculpture at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture in Karachi, later becoming an Associate Professor at the university and Head of the Fine Arts Department from 2008 to 2019. Her arresting socio-political sculptures transform and elevate domestic, mundane objects into Fine Art. A key theme in her work is the restricted place of women in Pakistani society, powerfully examined in the helmets, corsets and armor she beautifully crafts with kitchen utensils and other everyday objects. These compelling sculptures reveal Suleman’s commentary on the domestic, private sphere traditionally imposed on Pakistani women.
