A student of Nandalal Bose at Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan, Sudhir Khastgir was a noted member of the Bengal School of Art. In the mid-1930s, Khastgir was appointed as the Art Master of the newly founded Doon School in Dehradun, where he remained for two decades. A prolific and celebrated painter and sculptor, Khastgir was awarded the esteemed Padma Shri in 1957 for his distinguished contribution to the arts. The current brush works on paper are tender in subject, delicate in execution, and display the same exquisite line that can be seen in works by his former teacher, Nandalal.
