Maquette for Wipers

signed Sargeant Jagger and incised with title (on the inherent base)

painted plaster

height (including base): 47cm.; 18½in.

width: 30.5cm.; 12in.

Conceived in 1919-20, the present work was cast in the early 1930s.

The sculpture is sound and appears in good overall condition. The sculpture is missing the end of the bayonet. There are a few losses to the paint and tiny chips to the plaster, mainly to the edges of the base and the figure's satchel. There is surface dirt and dust, particularly in the crevices. There are possible historic breaks to the bayonet near the figure's hands. Flecks of household paint. There is some variation to the paint surface. The work is freestanding on its inherent base.
