During the late 19th century, this was the luxury bon voyage gift of choice for a loved one that was about to travel across the seas. This pendant watch from 1890 is an exceptional example of one of Patek Philippe’s ‘St. George’ engraved watches. The bezel states in Latin SECVRIT IN TEMPESTATE (safety in the storm) the outer engraving features St. George slaying the dragon surrounded by the motto GEORGIVS EQVITVM PATRONVS .’ (St George, Patron of the Knights). The fortunate original recipient was guaranteed a safe passage with this token of good luck, and the next owner may well receive the same!
