A pair of large hexagonal cloisonné enamel vases
Attributed to the Hayashi Kodenji workshop
Meiji period, late 19th century
the hexagonal vases with low waisted neck and everted foot, finely decorated in coloured cloisonné enamels and worked in various thicknesses of gold and silver wire on a dark blue ground, with sparrows amongst trailing wisteria fronds and vine, the neck rim with ornate lappets containing stylised chrysanthemum heads, the interior with further lappets and sprays of hollyhock on a pale blue counter-enamel ground
