Giambologna modeled a set of small silver sculptures of the Twelve Labors of Hercules for the Grand Duke of Tuscany Francesco I Medici around 1580. Due to their popularity numerous copies of the figures were made, both during the artist's lifetime and for decades thereafter. An early example of this composition, attributed to Giambologna and Antonio Susini (Florence 1558 - 1624) is in the collection of the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence.
