Description

Italian, Florence, first half 16th century

standing male nude

bronze

height 10 3/8 in.; 26.4cm.

Paul Rosenberg & Co., New York, 1987 (as Baccio Bandinelli);
Daniel Katz, Ltd., London
The classical flavor of this bronze male nude is unmistakable but with the absence of attributes, the figure remains unidentified. The fine, solid cast with original copper plugs and the beautiful, smooth surface and solid musculature distinguishes this piece and recalls the work of Baccio Bandinelli and his small bronze statuettes including his Hercules with a club in the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence.
