bronze, upon yellow marble socle
height of bronze 9 1/4 in.; 23.5cm.
Michelangelo's small terracotta and wax models were frequently copied by artists from the 16th century onward. This cast of a fragmentary male torso echoes Michelangelo's designs, many of which are associated with his work for the tomb of Pope Julius II and are preserved in the British Museum, The Victoria and Albert Museum and Casa Buonarroti in Florence.
