Overall in good condition with some surface dirt and wear consistent with age. The pipes, which would have been inserted into two small holes in the mouth, are missing. Some rubbing to the lacquer patina. Minor nicks and scratches, notably to the buttocks. A few small chips along the base.

A bronze oil lamp of triangular shape surmounted by a bound satyr but with otherwise identical masks, pendant leaves, scrolling brackets and paw feet is in the Frick Collection, New York. Both Pope-Hennessy and Avery identified the Frick bronze as from the workshop of Severo da Ravenna.
