Musical party before a laid table with a landscape through a doorway beyond

signed and dated center of left edge, on the saltcellar: AV Schoor 1643 (AV in ligature)

oil on canvas

canvas: 55 ¾ by 67 ⅞ in.; 141.5 by 172.3 cm.

framed: 63 by 76 in.; 160 by 193 cm.

The canvas is lined and taut on its stretcher. The image reads very well through clear varnish with bold colors retained and details like the signature intact. A horizontal crease in the canvas is slightly visible to the naked eye in the bottom third of the composition but is not distracting. A few small repairs are visible to the naked eye as inconsistencies to the surface texture, such as at upper right and along the right edge. Under UV inspection, the varnish is thick and difficult to read through and it fluoresces unevenly in areas that may obscure older retouching. Only 2 small spots of retouching are visible under UV at the center of the bottom edge. The painting can certainly hang in its present condition. Offered in a decoratively carved giltwood frame with nameplate reading "Abraham van der Schoor D. 1650."
