signed and dated center left on the jar: Hallé1753

oil on paper laid down on canvas

canvas: 7 7/8 by 9 7/8 in.; 19.7 by 25 cm.

framed: 12 1/4 by 14 3/4 in.; 31.1 by 37.5 cm.

The canvas is lined and remains flat and stable. The colors are vibrant and paint layer is lush, under a clear and bright varnish. There is lively impasto in the brushwork in many areas, particularly in the whites of the Virgin's shawl. There is some frame abrasion along the lower edge. Under ultraviolet light there is some restoration visible, including some in the shadows of the Virgin's cheek and in some of the darker areas of the background. It is not visible to the naked eye. The painting appears very fresh and can be hung as is. Offered in a carved giltwood frame.
