The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.

This work is painted on a panel made from two or possibly three pieces of wood. Retouches are visible under ultraviolet light in horizontal lines in the lower part of the composition, which address some previous instability to the paint layer that is now resolved. An original join in the panel running just below center has received retouches. A crack in the panel beginning in the center of the left side running to the center of the composition has also been restored. The dark background shows isolated spots of restoration to some thinness. There is another horizontal crack in the panel in the lower right corner that shows retouches. All the details and calligraphy in the book are in very good condition. The work should be hung in its current state.
