Diana and her attendants in a landscape with the spoils of the hunt

signed lower left on the rock: C.P.

oil on copper

copper: 14 1/4 by 19 1/8 in.; 36.1 by 48.5 cm.

framed: 20 1/2 by 25 in.; 52 by 63.5 cm.

The painting is on a large copper panel which has been cradled. It remains planar and stable. There is a clear, even varnish over the painting, which remains in very good condition. The colors are bright and the subtle glazes remain intact. There is one 2-mm diameter loss upper left in the browns. Under ultraviolet light there are some small retouchings in the brown midtones of the background, mostly in the lower left corner and behind the figure group on the right. Overall the painting retains a fresh and crisp quality as the paint sits nicely on the copper support. Offered in a carved giltwood frame.
