The first canvas shows the Grand Canal in front of the Palazzo Cavalli-Franchetti looking toward the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, with the Church of the Santissimo Redentore, the namesake church of the festival, beyond. In the second canvas we see the Grand Canal looking toward the Rialto bridge, illuminated from below with lit barges and crowds spilling across the sidewalks.
