Franco Cribiori;
With Massimo Ciaccio, Milan;
From whom acquired by the present owner.

The artist of this charming Holy Family drew influences from Tintoretto and artists within his close circle. It shares visual affinities with a Virgin and Child of circa 1545 in the Museo del Castelvecchio in Verona,1 a work attributed to Tintoretto by Rossi2 but more recently to the artist's circle by R. Echols and F. Ilchman.3 In addition, the head of Saint Joseph in the present work can be compared to the head of the same figure in an unfinished Holy Family with Saint John the Baptist today in the Yale Art Gallery, a work attributed by Echols and Ilchman to a studio hand.4
