Louis Comfort Tiffany | Gold, Opal, Demantoid Garnet and Colored Stone 'Medusa' Pendant-Necklace


Centering a cluster of tumbled opals, from which several stylized snake motifs emerge, the two side motifs articulated, the coiled tendrils further set with opals and round demantoid garnets, accented by colored gemstones including rubies and amethysts, length 15 inches, signed Louis C. Tiffany artist; circa 1904, numerous small gemstones deficient.

Please note that one or more of the cabochons framing the central opal may be pale blue sapphires, and one or more may be molded glass over opal. Please note this piece dates to circa 1904, not circa 1900 as stated in the print catalogue, and that the chain may be a later addition.

Purchased by Henry Walters (1848-1931), probably in 1906

Given to his companion Mrs. Pembroke Jones (1859-1943), who in 1922 became Mrs. Henry Walters
