Reference 130 is arguably the most classic of all Patek Philippe chronograph references. Manufactured from 1936 until around 1964, the majority of pieces were made in yellow gold, and so far only around 10 steel and gold Reference 130 wristwatches have been identified on the market.

The present lot from the first series has a 'Calatrava' style case, double case numbering, thinner lugs profile with pin holes and is made by case maker Georges in Geneva. The double case number (in this case 19) indicates how many cases were included in that delivery, allowing the company to keep an inventory of the cases without losing the book sequence.

Remaining with its original family for 80 years, Sotheby's is proud to offer this rare chronograph to the market. Although it is visible to see that the watch was well appreciated by the owner, it is preserved in an honest, attractive overall condition.
